Friday’s Class 4A state semifinal clash between Southwest Suburban Blue Conference rivals Orland Park Sandburg (24-15) and Lincoln-Way East (27-11) at EastSide Centre was dominated by Eagles senior pitcher Sarah Herold. She limited the Griffins to four hits in the 5-1 victory as Sandburg advances to the IHSA state title game Saturday against Gurnee Warren (28-9). Herold gave up four hits, struck out six and walked one, and also added three hits of her own. The only run was unearned in the fifth and came on an RBI single by Alana Selvaggio bringing home Nicole O’Donnell. Junior first baseman Katie Krzus led the Eagles with three hits including a two-run homer and 4 RBI’s.

East Peoria Junior Ashley Emert homered and senior Sarah Finck pitcher led the Red Raiders to a 6-1 victory at Morton High School Thursday. East Peoria wrapped up an unbeaten Mid-Illini Conference season. Ciera Montgomery doubled to start a two-run second inning for the Raiders (26-4, 14-0). Emert belted a solo home run in the fifth and Kali George capped the scoring with  a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. Finck allowed three hits and struck out nine Potters for the win. Jessica Cave drove in the only run for Morton.

Bradley freshman closer Matt Dennis earned the win by throwing 5.2 strong innings in his first career start and senior catcher Austin Jarvis drove in the deciding run in his final game at Dozer Park, leading the Braves (23-25, 5-16 MVC) to a 2-1 win against Indiana State (35-14, 14-7 MVC) Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams. The win ended Indiana State’s hopes of claiming a share of the regular-season Missouri Valley Conference championship and set up a rematch against the second-seeded and host Sycamores in the MVC Baseball Championship Tuesday at Bob Warn Field. The two teams will play a fourth consecutive game against one another in the fourth first-round game, a scheduled 7:30 p.m. (EST) start in Terre Haute, IN. Dennis (4-2), who made his first 19 appearances of the season in relief, limited Indiana State to one run on four hits in his longest career outing. Lefty Cameron Roegner finished off the strong pitching effort by tossing the final 3.1 innings. He worked around four hits to earn his first save of the season.

The Blue All-Stars clobbered the Red All-Stars 13-3 in the final game of the 2013 Super 60 Senior All-Star Classic at EastSide Centre. East Moline High School pitcher Brooke Prior did not allow a hit through four innings as and her Blue squad cruised for most of the game. The third place game was won by the White All-Stars, as they defeated the Grey All-Stars 9-8. Here are few shot’s from today’s action, hope you enjoy the photo’s. St. Charles East senior Olivia Lorenzini’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Fighting Saints a 3-2 victory over the Barrington Fillies in the IHSA Class 4A state softball semifinals on Friday at EastSide Centre. Lorenzini, who stepped to the plate 0-for-3, worked the count to 3-2. She then fouled off five successive pitches, before roping Keenan Dolezal’s offering to center field and past Tess Bolger’s outstretched glove Haley Beno (22-4) earned the win by scattering five hits, walking one and striking out three. The Saints (33-5) will face Minooka (22-8) for the Class 4A state tile at Mizuno Field in East Peoria at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
