The Washington Panthers (14-5, 8-4) softball team shut-out Limestone High School (15-13, 3-9) 3-0 Monday afternoon in Mid-Illini action. Senior pitcher Sydney Fields (8 strike-outs) hurled a no-hitter against the Rockets and was a hit batter away from throwing a perfect game for the visiting Panthers. Courtney Parker and Alexie Carlsten provided all of the offense with RBI’s for Washington.

Springfield Lanphier knocked off top seeded and previously unbeaten Washington,  49-47 in semifinal play at the 48th annual Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament Friday evening. The Panthers had a two-point lead and the ball with 1:10 to play but turned the ball over on its next two possessions. Washington (11-1) led 22-15 at halftime and held its largest lead at 31-17 after a Mason McCoy three-point play with 5:08 left in the third quarter.Freshman point guard Xavier Bishop‘s 3-pointer for Lanphier (7-5)  cut its deficit to a point with 1:48 remaining. Larry Austin’s driving layup, off a Washington turnover, tied the score at 47 and Scottie Wallace tipped in the game winner with 1.9 seconds to play. Alec Peters scored 16 points and added 11 rebounds for Washington. Bishop scored 16 and Larry Austin had four assists and three steals for the Lions.

Peoria Notre Dame jumped to a two goal lead by half time and finished with a 4-1 IHSA Class 2A Chillicothe Regional Soccer Title victory over Dunlap High School Saturday afternoon. Senior Grant Inskeep led the Irish with two goals, and Alex Garcis had three assists who outshot the Eagles 19-4. Sophomore Austin Cross scored Dunlap’s only goal of the game. The Irish will host the Washington Panthers at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Notre Dame Sectional.

Washington High School senior Mason McCoy scored the decisive goal with 10 minutes left to play that helped the host Panthers (7-0-1) defeat there conference rival Metamora Redbirds (3-4-1) in Mid-Illini soccer action 2-1.

The Morton Potters (17-4-1) easily defeated the Washington Panthers (10-10-1) 8-0 and won the IHSA Class 2A soccer regional championship at McClallen Park. It was a bittersweet day for longtime Potters coach Brian Deters, who coached his last home game at Rotary Field produced victory No. 277 with the girls team. His teams have won 12 regional titles, including three straight, Morton will attempt to claim its first sectional title next week when it plays Geneseo at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Peoria Notre Dame Sectional. Senior Erin Tisdale scored two goals in the first half to lead the Potters in scoring.
