Ken Goldin held numerous jobs the last 50 years at Bradley, from director of student activities to director of housing to director of auxiliary services to business manager. But to many in the mature crowd of 850 Friday at Renaissance Coliseum who attended “An Evening With Ken Goldin,” a tribute to Goldin’s half century of service at BU, he was simply “Moose, the Bradley guy who gets things done.” “Ken is the last member of our Bradley staff who actually walked the Hilltop with our beloved founder, Lydia Moss Bradley,” joked BU president Joanne Glasser, the first of six speakers at the affair besides master of ceremonies Dave Snell. “He came, he saw, he conquered. And he never left.” In a two-hour program Friday, the 75-year-old Goldin was toasted and roasted by Snell, Glasser, Mayor Jim Ardis, his daughter Kelly, Dr. Jim Erickson, Gary Anna and son-in-law Barney Winkler. But you can’t buy 850 friends. Besides having a great time Friday, which Ardis proclaimed as Ken Goldin Day in Peoria, those folks guaranteed Goldin and his late wife, Pat, will be long remembered at Bradley, contributing more than $50,000 to the Goldins’ endowed scholarship. Please check out one of my favorite songs written and performed by legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb “If You See Me Getting Smaller”. I think it really fits the career of one the finest gentleman that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Speaking for everyone who was in attendance Friday evening, thank you for everything you have done to make Peoria a better place. Click here to purchase photo’s.
