Kyle Rank stopped all 32 shots against and blanked the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday, the Peoria Rivermen goaltender broke the SPHL record for shutouts in a season with six. Previously, the record had been held by Louisiana’s Riley Gill, who collected five shutouts just one year ago. Overall, the 26-year-old leads the league with a 1.64 goals against average and .948 saves rate. He is 14-5-0 on the season and 9-4-0 with the Rivermen since being traded from the Fayetteville FireAntz on Dec. 18 for future considerations. Rank dealt his second shutout of the weekend while Parker Stanfield notched two goals to lead Peoria to a 3-0 victory before 2,791 fans at Carver Arena.

Gino Cavallini scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the St. Louis Blues alumni to post a 10-9 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at Carver Arena Wednesday evening before a estimated crowd of 4,500 fans. The game was fundraiser to benefit the victims of the EF-4 tornado that devastated Washington and other central Illinois communities November 17, 2013. Event organizer Denis Cyr, the former Peoria Rivermen, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks winger, reunited on a line with Denis Savard for the first time since their NHL days together 30 years ago. Terry Yake had a hat trick for the Blues and Eric Daze contributed a hat trick for the Blackhawks. Reunions and sharing stories of there glory days in professional hockey were prevalent in the locker rooms at the Peoria Civic Center Wednesday evening. Players and coaches from the St. Louis Blues alumni team and there rival Chicago Blackhawks gathered to reminisce and renew fellowship in order to raise money for tornado relief victims in the tri-county area. Some locker room and pre-game photo’s of the people who made this event possible. The idea for the event was engineered by former Peoria Rivermen HOF’er Denis Cyr. A web-site was established so fans can continue to donate and help raise funds to benefit those who were affected by the November 17, 2013 EF-4 tornado that sweep through central Illinois and devastated Washington and surrounding communities. Center Taylor Larsen notched Peoria’s fourth hat trick of the season, while Steve Morra and Matt Viola each added a tally, as the Peoria Rivermen cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Huntsville Havoc Friday at Carver Arena before 3,502 fans. Three of Peoria’s five goals were scored on special teams, including two shorthanded goals and a 1-for-5 performance on the power play. The victory extends Peoria’s win streak to a season-best three games, and its point streak to five. The Rivermen are now 6-6-3 on the year (15 points) in the SPHL and in sole possession of seventh place in the standings. In addition, goaltender Eric Levine (4-4-3) earned his third straight win after stopping 30 of 32 shots on the night. The Rivermen outshot the Havoc 39-32 on the night and went 6-for-7 on the penalty kill. Jesse Kallechy (6-3-0) suffered the loss after he made 35 saves.

Defenseman Nick Wheeler and center Garrett Vermeersch each scored a pair of goals on Friday to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 4-3 victory over the Bloomington Thunder at Carver Arena. In addition, rookie goaltender Eric Levine (2-4-3) stopped 31 of 34 shots for his second win of the season, and first on home ice. With the victory, Peoria improves to 4-6-3 on the year (11 points) and 3-0-0 against the Thunder this season. Bloomington on the other hand falls to 3-8-0, while netminder Max Strang (3-6-0) stopped 29 of 33 shots in the loss. Bloomington outshot the Rivermen 34-33 on the evening, which was just the second time all year the Thunder have outshot their opponent and first time on the road. Peoria finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
