The only thing Ian Madsen didn’t win Friday was the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores Dash and the $200 he could have pocketed for taking the re-draw challenge before he drew the six invert pill for the event.Outside of that sequence, Madsen was nearly untouchable en route to his third career MOWA Sprint Car Series. This one coming on a very fast 1/4 mile at Lincoln Speedway. Madsen and Jimmy Hurley each picked up a heat race win, while the invert drawn by Madsen before the dash put Jeremy Standridge on the front row of the six lap event. Standridge would hold on to pick up the first MOWA dash win of his career, as he celebrated his birthday at the track with family and friends.

I spent a day in the pits and on the track photographing  Sikeston, MO sprint car MOWA two-time champion Jerrod Hull . Traveled to the track with Jerrod, wife Nicole and their six-year-old son Jett along with long time friend Rick Leeman to LaSalle Speedway for a evening of racing. Jerrod has a tremendous and loyal group that helps him prepping the car, cleaning it, and getting the proper race set-up on his sprint car for a tough night of dirt track racing. Hope you enjoy the photo’s and you can click here to view more.

Bill Balog claimed his third straight Bill Waite Jr. Memorial race in the 30 lap main event was part of a sweep in which he captured his heat race and established a new series track record (10.475 seconds) in qualifying. All of this was accomplished against a stellar field which showcased the best talent from both the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints and the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA). A showing of 42 drivers made for one impressive sprint car event which played out before a near capacity crowd. To reach victory tonight Balog had to fight past a determined Scott Neitzel. On lap 20 of the 30 lap contest Balog managed to work by Neitzel in lapped traffic and then held onto the top spot earning his 13th win of the season. The victory, Balog’s 58th in IRA competition, pushed him just a bit closer to Joe Roe’s all-time win mark of 61. Mike Reinke managed to fend off two-time MOWA champion Jerrod Hull for the final podium spot as the pair waged a race long war for the third position. In doing so Reinke sealed an IRA sweep of the top three spots.

Jerrod Hull (#12) from Sikeston, MO. edged Don Droud Jr. (#71) by four hundredths of a second to win Saturday’s 28th Annual Tom Knowles Memorial at Spoon River Speedway. It was the second year in a row that the defending MOWA champion and current point leader has won the event. Hull led at the outset from the pole position he earned by winning the Dash from row three. Geoff Dodge (#66) settled into second ahead of Droud. By the halfway mark, the leaders were in heavy traffic and Dodge closed on Hull. On lap 16, the lapped machine of Bret Tripplett slowed and Hull made heavy contact with him causing nose wing damage. Dodge made contact as well, as Droud avoided the incident. All would continue on a restart that saw Hull ahead of Dodge, Droud, AJ Bruns (#44) and Ben Wagoner (#84).
