Glenwood Titans senior Kassidy Sheedy scored the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the first of two overtimes against Peoria Notre Dame. She fired a shot over PND goalkeeper Jenna Ashley‘s head and lifted the Titans to a 2-1 win at the IHSA Class 2A Morton Supersectional at Rotary Field Tuesday. The Chatham Glenwood High School girls soccer team will have a shot at defending its Class 2A state title. Glenwood (16-4-2) is two wins from claiming a second consecutive state title. The Titans will play a state semifinal Friday at 1 p.m. against Lake Forest (17-6-1) at North Central College in Naperville.

East Peoria Junior Ashley Emert homered and senior Sarah Finck pitcher led the Red Raiders to a 6-1 victory at Morton High School Thursday. East Peoria wrapped up an unbeaten Mid-Illini Conference season. Ciera Montgomery doubled to start a two-run second inning for the Raiders (26-4, 14-0). Emert belted a solo home run in the fifth and Kali George capped the scoring with  a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. Finck allowed three hits and struck out nine Potters for the win. Jessica Cave drove in the only run for Morton.

Washington High School catered the Metamora Class 3A Regional basketball title Thursday night with a 62-51 victory over rival Morton High School (26-5). The Panthers (24-3) ended a eight-year regional title drought to advance to the Chillicothe IVC Sectional to meet Galesburg (17-14) or Geneseo (16-13) in a semifinal scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday. Leading scorers for Washington were Jess Learned 17, Hayley Reneau 14, Maddie Lee 11 points, 6 rebounds, and Tia Sherman added 10 points. Chandler Ryan led Morton with 28 points, Brandi Bisping and Emma Heisler added 7 for the Potters.

The visiting Morton Potters (5-1-3, 2-0-1) moved into a tie for first in the Mid-Illini Conference thanks to a powerful attack that included three goals from Jonah Greving as they defeated the Limestone Rockets 6-1. Limestone senior Drew Hillman tied the game 1-1 at the 15-minute mark. The deadlock was broken almost instantly, however, as Jared Stoops put the Potters ahead for good with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute. Greving added a pair before the break to make it 4-1, with insurance goals by Andrew Dryden and Noah Spencer preserved the victory.

It only took 74 hours for the East Peoria (23-3) to win the Morton Regional Class 3A championship against the host Potters (24-9). The Red Raiders hit three home runs to post a 6-4 victory. Junior outfielder Lauren Kent (2-for-3) belted a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth with two-outs and EP trailing 2-0. A Morton error scored Brooke Jacobs, who hit a double that knocked off Morton pitcher Nicole Koch’s forehead, and tied the game at 2-2. Sarah Finck then blooped a single over into right field for a 3-2 last lead. Nicole Montgomery (2-for-3, home run, double, two RBIs) added a pair of insurance with a two-run homer to the bleachers in left field. Her blast scored Taylor Kellum (2-for-3), who led off the fifth with a walk. Sarah Finck (2-for-4, home run, two RBIs) then set the final score when she led off the sixth a homer to left. She picked up the win with 11 strikeouts and allowing three walks. East Peoria plays Metamora (24-11) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Limestone Sectional semifinal.
