I spent the afternoon visiting and photographing some of the instructors and children at former Bradley University and NBA star Mitchell J.J. Anderson‘s all-star basketball camp. Mitchell has given back to the community by holding a free week long basketball camp for underprivileged boys and girls ages 8 thru 14 since 1997. The camp has numerous coaches and volunteers that make this a huge success. Mitchell brings in several speakers for the kids during the week, and OSF Medical Center nurses gave all of the campers health physicals and eye screenings free of charge. They also learn about the importance of education, hygiene, and good nutrition

Some photo’s from this weeks  Shaun Livingston inaugural Pride of Peoria Basketball Clinic at legendary Peoria High School. He was joined by fellow Central Lion legends A.J. Guyton, Marcellus Sommerville and Daniel Ruffin in providing a free hoops basketball camp for 300-plus area youngsters. Livingston, will be playing for his ninth NBA team the Brooklyn Nets in the last seven years, will back up Deron Williams, the All-Star from the University off Illinois, at point guard. Williams was instrumental in convincing Nets management to sign Livingston. “We’re trying to build something for Peoria,” he said. “We want to build a (basketball) pipeline again for Peoria. We want to teach the game of basketball and (instill) life skills.”
