Local product Mark Roth‘s only basket of the game was a huge 3-pointer with 49 seconds left and NCAA Division III Augustana held on for a 58-56 win against a short-handed Bradley team Thursday night at Carver ArenaHunter Hill scored a game-high 18 points for the NCAA Division III preseason No. 3 Vikings and was Augustana’s only double-digit scorer. The 5-foot-9 junior guard also led the Vikings with six rebounds and five assists. Despite the cold shooting, which included a collective 7-for-25 (.280) effort in the second half, Bradley actually had a shot in the air to win the game at the buzzer, but Donte Thomas half-court runner hit off the backboard. Thomas had buried his second trey of the game with 5 seconds remaining to get the Braves within 57-56 and Augustana’s Danielius Jurgutis split two free throws with 3 seconds remaining to leave the door open for the Braves. Bradley officially will open its 111th men’s basketball season Nov. 14 when the Braves host Texas-Arlington in a 7 p.m. game at Carver Arena.
