Illinois Central College (9-2) jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 80-55 victory over the Lincoln Land College (8-3) Thursday night at Lorene M. Ramsey Gymnasium. The Lady Cougars were lead in scoring by sophomore forward Chanta Wright (Peoria Manual High School, Peoria, IL) with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Breonna Lewis (Springfield-Lanphier High School, Springfield, IL) scored 15 points and added 5 rebounds for the Loggers.

Morton High School senior forward Cortney Allenbaugh (3 goals) finished what Pekin’s all-state forward Sarah Zuercher (2 goals) started Monday night at the 14th annual 4-Kicks/Sports Verein senior girls all-star soccer showcase. The Mid-Illini Conference classmates teamed up to produce a record-setting 8-0 victory over the Mid-State 6. Kayla Campbell was named MVP for the M-I. Notre Dame’s Daniela Heppner was named MVP for the M-S 6. … Limestone’s Jessica Armour was the goalkeeper of the match. …  Peoria Central’s Erica Johnson received the game’s sportsmanship award. The Peoria Area Soccer Coaches Association presented an award at half-time to retiring head coach Brian Deters from Morton High School.

The host Limestone High School Lady Rockets scored a late goal to beat the East Peoria Red Raiders 3-2 in a hard fought non-conference matchup in Bartonville.  Cassidy Jennings led the Rockets scoring two goals both on penalty kicks. The game winner for Limestone was scored by junior Madeline Coats in the 66th minute who took a pass from Katelyn Crank in the box. Junior forward Jordyn Boles scored both goals (unassisted) for the Red Raiders. The same two teams will meet again next Tuesday April 17th at Eastside Centre. Click here to view my photo’s.

The #2 ranked Morton Potters (22-2) scored the game’s first 19 points, made 80% of there shots in the first quarter, forced nine turnovers in the first eight minutes and held Limestone (13-6)  scoreless until 40 seconds remained in the first period for a 48-24 Mid-Illini Conference win. Cortney Allenbaugh was 7 of 8 from the field for 14 points for the Potters and Lexi Ellis contributed 12 points. Jessica Armour led the Rockets with six points.
