East Peoria (21-3, 14-0) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Morton Potters 3-2 Thursday evening at Eastside Centre. Bridget Bankes knocked in Sarah Finck and Taylor Kellum for the walk off victory on senior night for the lady Red Raiders. Finck the junior pitcher for East Peoria tossed a two-hitter and struck out 15 to finish the Mid-Illini Conference unbeaten.

The Farmington Farmers (15-5, 6-0) defeated the host Brimfield/Elmwood Indians 4-1 Tuesday afternoon in Prairieland Conference action. B/E (16-3, 7-1) went up 1-0 thanks to Morgan Ledbetter’s RBI double. From there, though, the Indians got five hits, while leaving seven runners on base. Farmington pitcher Morgan Florey struck out 11, walked two, retired 10 in a row, and was aided by a flawless defense behind her. Brittany Danley (2-for-4) provided some runner support with a fourth-inning RBI.

The Limestone Rockets (23-9) captured the sectional championship for the first time in school history with a 61-59 over Central (13-17) in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Renaissance Coliseum in the championship game of the Class 3A Peoria Sectional on Friday. Terence Shelby a junior point guard led the Rockets with 19 points and five assists. Senior Josh Augusta had 17 points and 14 rebounds, Eriq Baird scored 15 and Myles Boone scored 10, all in the first quarter, for Central.”Big plays,” Limestone coach Eddie Mathews said. “We made big plays.” The Rockets will face Wheaton St. Francis (22-7) in the Dekalb Supersectional at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will advance to the state finals next weekend in Peoria.

The Morton High School Lady Potters (30-5) lost to two-time defending IHSA State Champions Quincy Notre Dame (29-0) 67-51 at Redbird Arena in Normal, IL. Kassidy Gengenbacher led QND with 15 points, with her sister Kristen added 13 points and unanimous first-team all-stater Jordan Frericks scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Morton freshman Chandler Ryan led the Potters with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field. Kaitlyn Bryne added 15 points and senior all-stater Sarah Livingston scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. They play three-time Class 3A state champion Lombard Montini (34-2) in the third-place game at noon Saturday.

Peoria Notre Dame (8-3) never trailed Saturday night and ran all over the Macomb Bombers (9-2) 41-21 in the second round of the IHSA Class 4A playoffs at historic Peoria Stadium. Irish junior running back Aaron Sanders led ND with 121 yards, on 11 carries and sophomore Andy Shadid rushed for three touchdowns. Quarterback Dom Comfort had a TD and 51 of the teams 260 yards on the ground. Macomb was led by senior running back Jarod Rockhold with 163 yards rushing and a 87 yard run for a touchdown. The Irish advance to the third round of the playoffs and square-off against top ranked Rochester (10-1) November 10th at home.
