The Illinois Central College softball team put on a hitting clinic beating Southeastern Iowa CC 10-2 in five innings in East Peoria, IL Thursday afternoon. The lady Cougars were led by freshman Erica Phillips with three hits including a home-run, along with two hits each by sophomores Sam Gudat and catcher Dani Smith. Freshman pitcher Rachel Patterson (6-4) from Tremont High School held the lady Blackhawks to two runs.

The Illinois Central College Lady Cougars (12-2) defeated the second ranked Kirkwood Community College Eagles 65-53 Monday night to capture the Stoney Creek Inn Cougar Holiday basketball tournament. Sophomore forward Chanta Wright paced the Cougars with 16 points and 13 rebounds, Gabby Williams added 10 points and 14 boards, and April Gebke chipped in 11 points and five assists. ICC held Kirkwood to 24.6 percent shooting (14-for-57) from the floor. The Eagles were led by freshman guard Tyra Polite with 16 points and sophomore Danielle Woolfolk added 13 points.

Illinois Central College (9-2) jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 80-55 victory over the Lincoln Land College (8-3) Thursday night at Lorene M. Ramsey Gymnasium. The Lady Cougars were lead in scoring by sophomore forward Chanta Wright (Peoria Manual High School, Peoria, IL) with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Breonna Lewis (Springfield-Lanphier High School, Springfield, IL) scored 15 points and added 5 rebounds for the Loggers.

Maywood Proviso East defeated the Trinity Trojans from Euless, TX 77-63 Wednesday night at Illinois Central College in the second round of the Tournament of Champions basketball tournament. The Pirates were led by senior guard Jevon Carter with 30 points and junior Kalin Fisher added 20 points and five assists. Seven foot senior center Myles Turner scored 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Trojans, while senior guard Adrian Wong added 21 points.

Illinois Central College (9-8) scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a throwing error at the plate allowing Alyssa Burd to score beating Parkland College 3-2 at the CougarPlex in the annual “Pink Game”. The Cougars were led in hitting by freshman outfielder Gabby Akright with two hits including a lead-off home run. Freshman pitcher Cordan Jones tossed a two-hitter while striking out five Cobra hitters without any walks. Sophomore third baseman Raeshel Braden hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Parkland’s only offense in the game.
