The Kankakee Bishop McNamara Irish (35-0) took advantage of two second-inning errors to beat the Tremont Turks (29-1), 8-2 in the IHSA Class 2A state title game on Sunday afternoon at EastSide Centre before over 1,200 fans. The lady Irish made the most of its two-out at-bats, getting half of its eight hits in a row with two outs. Successive singles by Caitlyn Delong (2-for-3, two RBIs), Alee Rashenskas (2-for-4, two RBIs), Bailee Porter (2-for-4) and Meghan Gill scored runs. Senior Jaelen Hull (28-0) scattered three hits including singles to Kennedy Runyon and Jill Runyon, had three strikeouts, and walked none. The Turks Kali Sanders hit a long home run to left centerfield with Tanner Garey on first for her seventh home of the year. Despite down 5-2, Tremont pitcher Jaycee Craver retired 12 in a row from the last out in the second to the sixth’s first two outs. The sophomore (22-1) struck out six, walked one, and gave up eight hits.
