Bradley junior Alyson Clemente belted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to help the Braves rally from a 5-4 deficit and top Missouri State 8-5 Thursday afternoon in the second round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The Braves advance to face regular-season conference champ Wichita State in the semifinals Friday at noon. Bradley (25-30 overall) appeared to be in control early on with senior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine limiting the Bears (28-27 overall) to one hit in the first four innings and she faced the minimum 12 batters through the first four frames. Senior Mariah Cole started a Bradley rally in the bottom of the sixth with a sharp one-out single to third base.  Junior Brittany Burgess and senior Brianne Joseph loaded the bases with back-to-back bunt singles for Clemente, who ripped a towering shot over the left field fence for her fifth homer of the year.

Bradley University played there only home exhibition game of the spring against SEC power Kentucky Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium. The Braves scored the only goal of the game late on a blast in the box by sophomore forward Christian Okeke for a 1-0 victory against the Wildcats. A few of my images from today’s game.

Bradley University sophomore Kathryn Spenn delivered a RBI pinch hit single in the sixth and senior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine tossed a three-hit shutout as Bradley defeated I-74 rival Illinois State 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at Laura Bradley Park. Lynch-Crumrine was dominant, striking out four and walking three in the complete game shutout for her fourth shutout in Missouri Valley Conference play this season. The Braves (19-24 overall, 10-7 MVC) did not manage a base runner off the Redbirds (17-24 overall, 8-5 MVC) starter Regan Romshek until a single to open the fifth.

Missouri State had not recorded a hit since one out in the second inning, but the Bears (14-16, 4-3 MVC) strung together four consecutive hits with 2 outs in the ninth to pull out a 6-5 win in the opening game of their Missouri Valley Conference series at Bradley (17-12, 3-7 MVC) Friday afternoon at Dozer Park. After the Braves closer Matt Dennis (2-1) caught Trey Hair looking on a sweeping curve ball for the second out of the ninth, Dylan Becker rifled the next pitch to the right centerfield wall for a triple. Tate Matheny followed with a game-tying single to right field, then scored the game-winner when Eric Cheray and Matt Fultz followed with base hits. The Bears took an early 4-1 lead by roughing up Bradley starter Elliot Ashbeck for six hits in the first two innings. But the sophomore right-hander settled in and completed 6.0 innings, before exiting with the Braves trailing 4-2. Bradley pulled even in the seventh Greg Partyka‘s 2-run home run to right centerfield, then took its first lead of the game, 5-4, in the eighth when pinch-hitter Brady Wilkin came through with a sacrifice fly.

Stepping out of conference for the final time, and outdoors at home for the first time this spring, the Bradley University women’s tennis team was defeated 4-3 by Nebraska Omaha Sunday at the David Markin Tennis Courts. After getting a doubles win from junior Carly Miles and freshman Ashley Thai, the Braves (4-12) dropped the remaining two matches to give the Mavericks (5-9) the doubles point. Bradley struck first in singles, getting a straight-sets win from juinior Elizabeth Przystawski, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6. After Omaha wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to go up 3-1, junior Cassia Wojtalik cut the deficit to 3-2, winning 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5. After Omaha clinched the match with a win at No. 3, Carly Miles set the final outcome with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 decision at No. 4. Click here for the box score.
