Glenwood Titans senior Kassidy Sheedy scored the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the first of two overtimes against Peoria Notre Dame. She fired a shot over PND goalkeeper Jenna Ashley‘s head and lifted the Titans to a 2-1 win at the IHSA Class 2A Morton Supersectional at Rotary Field Tuesday. The Chatham Glenwood High School girls soccer team will have a shot at defending its Class 2A state title. Glenwood (16-4-2) is two wins from claiming a second consecutive state title. The Titans will play a state semifinal Friday at 1 p.m. against Lake Forest (17-6-1) at North Central College in Naperville.

The Fightin’ Titans opened its home football season with a 14-7 nonconference win over Hope College before a “Family Day” crowd of 2,600 on Saturday, at Tucci Stadium. Illinois Wesleyan improved to 3-0 and will open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play next Saturday at Millikin. Hope lost for the first time this season and is 3-1. All the scoring was in the first half. The Flying Dutchmen opened the scoring with 05:17 to go in the first quarter when Shawn Jackson rushed in from 24 yards out. Evan Finch added the kick to put the Dutch ahead, 7-0. The Titans answered with a touchdown pass from senior Rob Gallik to sophomore Artie Checchin with 1:45 to play in the first quarter, ending a nine-play, 71-yard drive that took 3:24. Sophomore Michael Kelley‘s kick tied the score at 7-7. The final TD of the game came with 10:36 to go in the second quarter when Gallik found senior Taylor Dee on a 5 yard pass to end a 72 yard, six-play drive that consumed 2:43. Gallik completed 22 of 38 passes for 227 yards and two TDs, hitting senior Alex Garvey for eight balls and 105 yards. Checchin made four grabs for 18 yards and senior Tate Musselman had three grabs with 41 yards. Senior T.J. Stinde had 129 yards on 17 carries with a long of 49 yards and Devonte Jones rushed for 16 yards on 11 carries.

The Glenbard South Raiders (30-5) advanced to IHSA Class 3A state finals with a 5-1 over Tinley Park Friday morning at Eastside Centre. Senior Stephanie Chitkowski pitched the final five innings, allowing two hits and no runs, while senior third baseman Hannah Taylor launched a two-out, two-run home run in the sixth off Sarah Gillespie that broke open a one-run game. The defending state champion lady Raiders will play Alton Marquette at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mizuno Field.

The Tinley Park Titans pounded out 11 hits Tuesday afternoon to beat Peoria Notre Dame, 7-0 in the IHSA Class 3A Normal Supersectional. The Irish managed only four hits. Marcy Serrano (2-for-3) capped ND’s hitting with a two-out double in the seventh. Junior Annie Fleming went 2-for-3, including a two-out, first-inning double. Senior Sarah Gillespie was the winning pitcher for the Titans, while sophomore Mikkinzie Stokes took the loss for the Irish. The Titans (25-7) play defending state champion Glen Ellyn Glenbard South (29-5) at 10 a.m. Friday in the 3A state semifinals at EastSide Centre.

The Chatham Glenwood Titans (19-4-2) ended the Morton Potters (19-5-1) postseason run with a 3-0 victory in the IHSA Class 2A Springfield Supersectional. A tightly-contested affair in the midfield, the game was ultimately decided in front of the Morton goal, where the Titans converted three crosses into three unanswered goals and, as a result, the program’s fifth trip to the state finals. The Titan goals were scored by Brendel Marshall, Kayla Torry and Abby Juhlin. Chatham’s senior goal keeper Cara Moody was stellar in between the pipes shutting down Morton. Next up for the Titans is a state semifinal match at 1 p.m. Friday against Normal University High (17-5-1) at North Central College in Naperville.
