Josh Frye, a 6-foot-7 right-hander from Long Beach State, pulled himself together and overcame a three-run first inning to guide the LaCrosse Loggers past the Eau Claire Express 5-3 in front of 3,209 fans at Copeland Park. They had three runs already on the board and runners on second and third with no outs when Frye found a way to escape, getting three harmless outs. Frye went five innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Relievers Brooks Kriske, Joel Effertz and Craig Caufield (four saves) held Eau Claire to one hit over the final four innings. La Crosse got a run in the bottom of the first when the first two batters reached against Will Kenny, and with two outs, Kevin Zak hit a ball to deep shortstop that was played into an error, scoring Mike Nadratowski. Johnny Bekakis and Max McDowell had two-out RBI hits in the second to tie it 3-3, knocking Kenny out of the game. The Loggers made it 5-3 in the third against Jake Cole when Connor Teykl drilled a two-run triple into the right field corner.
