Rock Island held on to defeat Peoria High 54-52 in Friday’s IHSA Class 3A Peoria Sectional final at Renaissance Coliseum. No. 5 Central was not in the game for nearly 30 minutes. Down 12 with 3:24 to play, the Lions forged a late rally. They tied the game with 25 seconds left, had a shot in the air to win at the buzzer. Rock Island senior Chasson Randle finished with 34 points, one short of his career high.

Illinois Mr. Basketball candidate Chasson Randle scored 21 points to lead the Rock Island boys basketball team to a 78-37 rout of the overmatched Morris Redskins in Wednesday’s semifinal of the IHSA Class 3A Peoria Sectional. The third-ranked Rocks (26-3) will face No. 5 Peoria Central (19-8) in Friday’s sectional final at the Renaissance Coliseum on the campus of Bradley University.
