The Tremont Turks managed just two hits, but none was bigger than Rachel Patterson’s home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for 1-0 victory over Sherrard at Eastside Centre. With one out and facing a 1-2 count, the senior second baseman took Rachel Winston’s offering over the right-field fence. All it took was one run for the Turks to repeat as sectional champions behind the pitching dominance of Jaycee Craver. In five postseason games, Craver (21-0) has yet to allow a run. The Turks (28-0) play St. Bede (23-5) at 3 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals. It’s Tremont’s first state finals appearance since a second-place finish at the inaugural finals in 1976.

It only took 74 hours for the East Peoria (23-3) to win the Morton Regional Class 3A championship against the host Potters (24-9). The Red Raiders hit three home runs to post a 6-4 victory. Junior outfielder Lauren Kent (2-for-3) belted a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth with two-outs and EP trailing 2-0. A Morton error scored Brooke Jacobs, who hit a double that knocked off Morton pitcher Nicole Koch’s forehead, and tied the game at 2-2. Sarah Finck then blooped a single over into right field for a 3-2 last lead. Nicole Montgomery (2-for-3, home run, double, two RBIs) added a pair of insurance with a two-run homer to the bleachers in left field. Her blast scored Taylor Kellum (2-for-3), who led off the fifth with a walk. Sarah Finck (2-for-4, home run, two RBIs) then set the final score when she led off the sixth a homer to left. Macy Martin’s goal 1:56 into overtime of Friday night’s IHSA Class 2A Notre Dame Sectional championship game propelled Morton High School to a 1-0 victory over hosts Peoria Notre Dame. Due to a rules change, the sophomore’s strike off a feed from Kayla McCormick didn’t instantly give the Potters the win. But thanks to a solid effort from the back, Morton was able to hold off Notre Dame over the final 18 minutes of overtime to make it stand for a 1-0 victory. Junior goal keeper Olivia Erickson was stellar for the Potters with the shutout. The Irish (11-10-2) came within a step of going ahead with just under five minutes to play, but Elizabeth Mills’ cross through the goal area just missed connecting with an attacking Elizabeth Frampton on the far post. The Lady Potters (13-7-3) advance to the Springfield Supersectional, where they will face Chatham Glenwood at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the Illinois-Springfield campus.
