Bradley junior Michelle Young scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half and helped highlight a 23-3 second-half Bradley run with 11 points and an assist as the Braves topped Illinois-Springfield 74-50 at Renaissance Coliseum Friday in an exhibition game. Young got things started with a basket nearing the 15-minute mark and sophomore Jenny Smith had a hoop in the lane, before Young found senior Kelsey Budd open for a three to give BU a 51-40 advantage. Young split a pair of free throws with just under 13 minutes to play and senior Catie O’Leary added a basket of her own. Another Budd three-pointer stretched the lead to 57-40 and Smith hit senior Kelly Frings with a pass under the hoop for a layup as Bradley scored 15 consecutive points to open the 23-3 spurt. Young was 6-for-10 from the field and also had two steals to go with her game-high 19 points as she paced three Bradley players in double figures.  Budd added 11 points, eight assists, two blocks and three steals and collected seven points and six assists in the second half.  Senior Alyson Spinas-Valainis finished with 10 points as all five BU starters scored eight or points. Bradley opens the 2013-14 regular season next Friday with an 11 a.m. contest against Big Ten Conference foe Illinois at Renaissance Coliseum.
