After breaking ground in October 2008, the new 125,000 square-foot terminal officially opened today. The new terminal will be able to service approximately one million passengers annually through 12 gates. Ticket counters, gate areas, baggage claim and rental car desks are all located on one floor in the main concourse.The $65 million General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport came in $2 million under budget. The Foundations and Building General Contractor was Williams Brothers Construction, Inc. Participating in the ribbon cutting of the new terminal were Ray LaHood Secretary of Transportation, Susan Shea Director of Aeronautics, Illinois Department of Transportation, Dick Durbin U.S. Senator of Illinois, Aaron Schock U.S. State Representative as well as Kathryn Downing the widow of General Wayne A.
