Notre Dame (12-7-1) looking to capture their 11th consecutive regional title easily defeated Manual Academy 8-0. The Lady Irish were led in scoring by Mackinsay Manning with three goals, two apiece from Keeghen O’Brien and Elizabeth Mills and one from Elizabeth Frampton. Jenna Ashley and Ruthie Bertram were flawless in goal. Notre Dame will face Richwoods (8-10-1) at 7 p.m. Friday in the IHSA regional championship.

The Peoria Notre Dame Irish softball team defeated the Dunlap Eagles 9-5 behind the pitching and hitting of Mikkinzie Stokes. She belted a three-run homer over the left center field fence in the top of the first inning staking the Irish with a 3-0 lead. Mikkinzie also added a double going 2-for-2 with four RBIs at the plate, while striking out 11 Eagle batters. Abby Akright and Dana Jablonski combined for five hits and four RBIs for Dunlap. A header by Chicago Mather’s all-State player Qudos Lawal just 44 seconds into the game proved to be all the Rangers would need in there IHSA Class 2A semifinal game with defending state champion Peoria Notre Dame, 3-0 at Lincoln-Way North High School. Mather’s other two goals were scored by Steven Younus and Juan Mendez. Notre Dame (20-6) plays Marmion Academy (19-7-3) for the third-place game. The Rangers (20-3-1) meet Chatham-Glenwood (17-5-2) for title. Click Here to view all of my photo’s.

Superior pitching and sound defense is what fueled the Notre Dame Irish baseball team into the Class 3A Rock Island Super-sectional. The opposite of all that, coupled with base running errors, is what helped cost the Irish a spot in the IHSA Class 3A state baseball finals. Notre Dame (27-7)  committed five errors, walked five batters and hit two more in its 8-3 loss Monday to Maple Park Kaneland (24-10) at Duane Swanson Field located on the Augustana College campus. Senior right hander Doug Cicciarelli suffered his first loss of the season for the Irish.

Peoria Notre Dame (6-0) won the Mid-State 6 Conference on a walk-off passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Richwoods Knights (4-2), 13-12 on senior day at the Franciscan Recreation Complex. In the bottom of the seventh, the Irish who trailed 12-10, sent the game in to extra innings when catcher Maggie Rothan and second baseman Julie Mayernich had back to back RBI’s to tie the game. Margaret Schwab was the winning pitcher for the Irish after replacing starter Mary Kate Tracy in the eighth inning.
