Friday’s Class 4A state semifinal clash between Southwest Suburban Blue Conference rivals Orland Park Sandburg (24-15) and Lincoln-Way East (27-11) at EastSide Centre was dominated by Eagles senior pitcher Sarah Herold. She limited the Griffins to four hits in the 5-1 victory as Sandburg advances to the IHSA state title game Saturday against Gurnee Warren (28-9). Herold gave up four hits, struck out six and walked one, and also added three hits of her own. The only run was unearned in the fifth and came on an RBI single by Alana Selvaggio bringing home Nicole O’Donnell. Junior first baseman Katie Krzus led the Eagles with three hits including a two-run homer and 4 RBI’s.

More than $2.4 million was raised Saturday during the annual Easter Seals Telethon. The telethon, held at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria and broadcast on WMBD Channel 31, resulted in $2,439,743.00 in donations. The organization’s goal was to top last year’s telethon total of $2.382 million. “We did great,” said Steve Thompson, President/CEO of Central Illinois Easter Seals. “We were really excited about our results.” Easter Seals provides services, education, outreach, and advocacy to people living with autism and other disabilities. Congratulations to all of the VIP’s for all of there hard work, energy and compassion for the kids. Limestone High School raised $ 62,000 this year for the kids. Southeastern Iowa CC defeated Illinois Central College (5-5) 78-66 Thursday night at Lorene M. Ramsey Gymnasium. The host Cougars shot just 31 percent from the field and lost the battle of the boards by 21 to the Blackhawks. ICC was led in scoring by guards Partice Sanders and Sam Feehan with 14 points each, and freshman center Jordan Seele grabbed 6 rebounds.Southeastern Iowa scoring leaders were Warren Jones with 18 points and Tyrie Orosco 16 points. Nick Lyon added 14 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

Illinois Central College (11-2-1) topped Southwestern Illinois College (12-6-0) 4-1 at EastSide Centre in East Peoria Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Keenan Vincent scored twice for the Cougars as freshman Norman Ramos assisted on both goals. Amara Soumah and Diego Valdez each scored a goal for ICC. The Blue Storm scored there only goal in the game by sophomore Jon O’Brien. There were 35 total fouls in the game, and the Cougars outshot SWIC 10-7. Omar Ramirez was outstanding in goal for the Cougars.
