The Peoria Notre Dame Irish softball team defeated the Dunlap Eagles 9-5 behind the pitching and hitting of Mikkinzie Stokes. She belted a three-run homer over the left center field fence in the top of the first inning staking the Irish with a 3-0 lead. Mikkinzie also added a double going 2-for-2 with four RBIs at the plate, while striking out 11 Eagle batters. Abby Akright and Dana Jablonski combined for five hits and four RBIs for Dunlap. It was a hot, humid night for the beginning of the 2011 IHSA football season. The Dunlap Eagles topped the Chillicothe Grey Ghosts 18-13 at Taylor Field. Dunlap was led by senior quarterback Connor Currier who passed for 220 yards, and senior all-state WR/LB Nick Mangieri with 101 receiving yards and double-digit tackles on defense.

On a cool evening before 3,000 plus energetic fans the Dunlap Eagles posted a 45-14 victory at Eagle Field. Dunlap quarterback Logan Schrader finished the game with 244 passing yards and 144 rushing yards, threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the pivotal second quarter. The Eagles allowed just 182 yards and nine first downs. Billy King led the Irish in rushing with 59 yards. The two teams combined for seven unsportsmanlike penalties plus two more that were offsetting. Notre Dame was penalized for a total of 100 yards and Dunlap for 70.
