I finally decided to make the 120+ mile drive from P-Town to Danville on Thursday to visit there historic baseball stadium built in1946. It is the home of the Danville Dans, a member of the Prospect League. The Dans were hosting the Hannibal Cavemen in a doubleheader on a warm beautiful spring day in the Midwest. I had the pleasure of visiting before the game and viewing photo’s and memorabilia in the office of Jeanie Cooke, managing partner and local historian of the stadium. Some of the all-time baseball greats such as Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige have played on this historic field. The stadium was the backdrop for the 1992 movie biography “The Babe” about Major League Baseball legend Babe Ruth. I had great time stepping back in time and capturing some images of baseball history. On a side note the Dans won both games of the double-header, 7-6 and 6-5 in 6 hours and 15 minutes ending on Friday morning.
