Senior Andrew Ribeiro’s goal in the 86th minute Sunday afternoon lifted #12 Creighton University (15-3-2)to a 2-1 victory against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (13-7-0) in the championship game of the Missouri Valley Conference soccer tournament at Shea Stadium. Ribeiro knocked in a short rebound after Cougars’ junior goalkeeper John Berner stopped Ribeiro’s penalty kick. Berner couldn’t secure the ball and Ribeiro alertly pounced on the rebound for the game-winner. Jared Tejada. The Bluejays clinched the Valley’s automatic berth for the upcoming NCAA tournament. The title is Creighton’s second consecutive tournament crown, fifth in eight years, and 13th in the 22-year history of the event. Host and fifth-seeded Bradley advanced to the State Farm MVC Men’s Soccer Championship match with a 3-2 win over 12th-ranked Creighton in the second semifinal Friday night at Shea Stadium.  The Bluejays scored the first two goals of the match in the first half and owned a 2-1 lead at halftime, but the Braves completed the comeback with two second-half goals to upset the regular-season champion Bluejays for the second time in the last week.

The # 18 SMU men’s soccer team defeated  # 16 Creighton Bluejays with a come-from-behind 3-2 double-overtime win in the Bradley Tournament Friday night. Freshman Juan Castillo scored a goal and junior Arthur Ivo converted two penalty kicks for the Mustangs. SMU is now 6-0-0 on the season.
