The Peoria Chiefs’ three-game winning streak ended when the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored three runs in the ninth inning to hand the Chiefs a 4-1 loss on Tuesday on Illini Night at O’Brien Field before 1,334 fans. The loss dampened a night that started with new Illinois men’s basketball coach John Groce throwing out a ceremonial first pitch. The Timber Rattlers had three straight singles to start the inning against Peoria reliever Justin Berg to break the tie. Catcher Kolin Conner hit two homers and had sev­en RBIs as the Dubois County Bombers (11-2) rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and five runs in the eighth to beat the Springfield Sliders (3-11) 8-5 in a Prospect League game Tuesday night at Robin Roberts Stadi­um before 448 fans. Lincoln Land Community College product Mike Fitzgerald slammed a two-out, three-run homer in the first inning to give the Sliders a 3-0 lead, which they held until Conner blasted a three-run homer off starting pitcher Adam Peters in the seventh. Spencer Sapp started for Dubois County and went 6 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits but six walks and five earned runs. Joey McClung finished the game and gained the victory, his second without a loss. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out three. Click here for complete game stats.

The Nashville Hornettes (34-4) stunned the St. Joeseph-Ogden Spartans (40-1) in there IHSA Class 2A semifinal game 5-2 at Eastside Centre. Nashville jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run homer by Hannah Yung. Sophomore Kiley Pelker belted a two-run double in second inning for an early 5-0 lead and held on with the strong pitching of Maci Ingram. The Freshman pitcher allowed five hits and struck out 14 in handing SJ-O its first loss of the year. Spartans catcher Mickaela Fleming hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for their only runs of the game. Click here for complete game info and stats.

The Canton High School (18-14) baseball team beat Illini West (18-16) 9-1 in the IHSA Class 2A regional game at Monmouth College. The Little Giants had 13 hits and left handed pitcher Alex Shake shut down the Chargers hitters only surrendering 2 hits and striking out 10. The Canton offense was led by left-fielder Eric Jarvis who went 3-for-5 with two doubles and 3 RBI’s, Jake Randall 3-for-5 with 2 RBI’s, catcher Jake Ketcham 2-for-3 and Cody Smith 2-for-4. Canton will face Rock Island (Alleman) on Saturday May 26th at 11:00 am for the sectional championship at Monmouth College.

The Peoria Chiefs behind another strong pitching performance from lefty Kyler Burke defeated the Burlington Bees 2-1 before 1,367 fans. Both of the Chiefs runs came by way of sacrifice flies. In the fourth, designated hitter Taylor Davis drove in Ryan Cuneo, who walked and then took third on Anthony Giansanti’s single. Burlington scored their only run in the third when B.A. Vollmuth drove in Sean Jamieson, who doubled. The victory gives Peoria its first four-game winning streak of the season.
