Limestone Community High School students kicked it up a notch today by breaking there all-time record in raising $43,000 for the kids of Easter Seals. Over the past 36 years they have raised $590,000. The closing ceremonies included tug of war contests between classes and pie throwing. You could feel the energy in the gym as they announced money raised thru various school activities during the past two weeks. They will present the check Saturday evening at the Par-A-Dice Hotel at the annual Telethon live on WMBD Channel 31 television from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The seventh annual Black & Blue Ball for the kids of Easter Seals was once again the place to be in P-town. Your host for the evening were Mark & Jodi Scott, Don & Brenda Young and Chris & Helen Chadwick. Bradley University Chi Omega Sorority sold over $ 6,300 in 50/50 tickets, and with the silent and live auction over $ 150,000 will be raised. Wedding Banned from Gas City, IN were once again the highlight of the evening, putting on a rocking show. The dance floor was packed all night. Don’t forget the 2012 Easter Seals Telethon is next Saturday March 3rd from 6:00-11:00pm at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria and live on WMBD TV Channel 31.

Bradley sophomore guard Walt Lemon, Jr. came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points, but Illinois State (18-12, 9-9 MVC) overcame some cold shooting to pull out a 54-53 win against the Interstate 74 rival Braves (7-24, 2-16 MVC) Saturday afternoon at Carver Arena. While Lemon made 7-of-13 field goal attempts, he was the only Brave to shoot better than 33 percent from the field, as the rest of the team combined to make just 11-of-46 (.239) field goal attempts. Jackie Carmichael led the Redbirds with 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Ekey added 10 points, while Dyricus Simms-Edwards scored 14 for Bradley to complete the double-digit scoring. Cowden-Herrick Beecher City (29-3) advances to the IHSA Class 1A championship game with a 63-54 victory over Illini Bluffs (24-6) at Redbird Arena. The Lady Tigers were led by junior Taylor McClintock with 38 points. Faith Wendte scored 20 points pacing the Lady Hornets and Micah Jones grabbed 16 rebounds. Illini Bluffs will play Leroy in the third place game, while C-H/BC will battle Freeport (Aquin) for the Class 1A State Championship. Click here for complete game stats.

Led by 6-foot-1 junior Sarah Livingston’s 20 points the Morton Potters (31-2) over Peoria Richwoods (27-4) Thursday night in the championship game at the Galesburg basketball sectionals 44-24. The Knights trailed 15-4 before they started a rally in the second quarter. Brenna Detra scored six points and Gabby Cunningham hit a layup with 23 seconds left in the period to close the gap to 17-13. Kate Byrne added nine points, six rebounds and two blocks for Morton, Cortney Allenbaugh had eight points. The Potters move on to face Country Club Hills Hillcrest in the Pontiac Supersectional at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
